Geomatics pole

As spatial information is becoming increasingly important in the ECOSYS research themes, from intra-field to global scale via territorial scale, the creation of a new Geomatics pole was suggested by the managing team

The Geomatics group objective will be to improve tools expertise, share softwares and sensors for spatial analysis between ECOSYS scientific teams. The involved methods will include: mapping techniques; creation, integration and analysis of spatial information under Geographic Information System (GIS); acquisition and processing of remote sensing data from satellite and Unmanned Aerial System (UAS); creation and use of spatialized databases (SQL); integration of spatial information into models (Volt'Air, CERES, STICS ...); georeferencing proxy sensing measurements in the field with GPS or DGPS; software tools development. The pole coordination will be done by Jean-Marc Gilliot (Soil team), Emmanuelle Vaudour (Soil team) and Raia Massad (Eco&Phy team). The coordinators of the pole will:

  • manage equipments (softwares, working stations, various in-field sensors, images, GPS, databases, UASs) that are used for geomatics activities, specify the needs in term of storing devices and equipment maintenance, anticipate the needs of new equipment and write the funding applications.
  • in cooperation with the documentation center, update and extend subscriptions to journals and acquire reference books;
  • help the heads of the scientific teams to prepare the recruitment plan for geomatics technicians and engineers; evaluate the career progressions of the technicians and engineers depending of their wishes and the needs in the laboratories in cooperation with the heads of each scientific team;
  • organize students and colleagues training.
